The Town of Smithtown encompasses 111.4 square miles in Suffolk County and is populated by 117,481 people as of the 2010 census. Originally known as Smithfield in the mid 1600’s, the town is located east of the Town of Huntington, with Bread and Cheese Hollow Road dividing the two towns. Situated between the Town of Smithtown and the Town of Huntington is Fort Salonga where a battle took place in 1781 during the American Revolution.

Three villages and eight hamlets comprise the Town of Smithtown. The villages are Head of the Harbor, Nissequogue and Village of the Branch. The hamlets are Commack and Fort Salonga, both shared with the Town of Huntington, Hauppauge, shared with the Town of Islip, Kings Park, Lake Ronkonkoma, shared with the Town of Brookhaven and the Town of Islip, Nesconset, Smithtown and Saint James.

The Town of Smithtown is serviced by three Long Island Rail Road stations, Kings Park, Smithtown and Saint James, and by the Suffolk County Transit Bus.

Some of the major roadways include the Long Island Expressway, the North State Parkway, Veteran’s Memorial Highway, the Sagtikos State Parkway, the Sunken Meadow Parkway, Route 25 and Route 25A.

The Town of Smithtown is home to some of Long Island’s most beautiful parks, preserves and beaches including Blydenburgh County Park, Sunken Meadow State Park, Caleb Smith State Park and Short Beach in Nissequogue.
