The Town of Hempstead, along with the Town of North Hempstead and the Town of Oyster Bay, are the three towns located in Nassau County on Long Island. The Town of Hempstead is situated in the southwestern part of the county and is comprised of 22 incorporated villages, including Garden City, Freeport, Rockville Centre, Hempstead, Lynbrook, Valley Stream and East Rockaway, and 37 hamlets including Baldwin, Bellmore, East Meadow, Merrick, Inwood, Garden City South, Uniondale and Wantagh.

Hempstead is the largest of any town in NY, and the most populous municipality in the NY metro area, outside of NYC. As of the 2010 census, the town’s population was 759,757. It has a total area of 191.3 square miles, bordering Queens County on the west and the Town of North Hempstead and the Town of Oyster Bay on the north. To the south is the Atlantic Ocean.

The eastern coast’s most popular beach, Jones Beach, located in Jones Beach State Park in the Town of Hempstead, receives approximately six million beachgoers each year. Other popular beach communities in the Town of Hempstead include Atlantic Beach, Long Beach and Lido Beach.
