The Town of Islip, located on the south shore of Long Island, is one of ten towns in Suffolk County. It is situated between the Town of Babylon to its west and the Town of Brookhaven to its east with the Atlantic Ocean as its southern border and the Town of Smithtown to the north. Sunrise Highway runs east-west through the town, Route 111 runs north-south, and the Long Island Expressway runs along the town’s north border.

As of the 2010 census, the town’s polulation was 335,543 and the area is 162.98 square miles of which 59.17 is water. Part of Fire Island and the Great South Bay are both included in the Town of Islip. Passenger ferries to Fire Island are available from various terminals in the town.

Four incorporated villages make up the Town of Islip, including Brightwaters, Islandia, Ocean Beach and Saltaire. Some of the unincorporated hamlets within the town include Bay Shore, Bohemia, Brentwood, Central Islip, parts of Hauppauge, Holbrook and Holtsville, Islip, parts of Ronkonkoma, Sayville and West Islip. Captree Island, Lakeland and Edgewood are other communities within the town.

Several parks are located in the Town of Islip including Robert Moses State Park, Heckscher State Park, Brentwood State Park and Connetquot River State Park Preserve.

MacArthur Airport is located in Ronkonkoma. The Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road and the Suffolk County Transit Bus service the area. Major roadways include the Long Island Expressway, the Southern State Parkway, Heckscher State Parkway, Robert Moses Causeway, Ocean Parkway. Route 27, and Route 111.
