Located in central Nassau County on Long Island, the incorporated Village of Garden City is primarily situated within the Town of Hempstead, although a small section of it is located within the Town of North Hempstead. The Village is about 18 miles from midtown Manhattan. Individual hamlets of Garden City South, Garden City Park and East Garden City are neighboring locations and not part of the Village. Stewart Manor shares the same zip code as the Village of Garden City.

The 2010 census reports Garden City’s population to be 22,731. Many stately colonials and large Victorian homes with expansive, manicured lawns and gardens are prevalent throughout the community. The downtown area which includes Franklin Avenue, Seventh Street and New Hyde Park Road offers an abundance of upscale shopping and restaurants.

Roosevelt Field, one of the country’s largest indoor shopping malls, is located in East Garden City. It is at this location where Charles Lindbergh in 1927 departed on his famous transatlantic flight, which was later featuered in the 1957 movie, The Spirit of St. Louis, with James Stewart.

The Garden City Hotel on Seventh Street, a historical landmark in Garden City, was demolished due to bankruptcy in the 1970’s and a new first-class luxury Garden City Hotel was constructed in its place. Adelphi University, Hofstra University and Nassau Community College are all located nearby. Other places of interest include the Cradle of Aviation Museum, the Long Island Children’s Museum and the Nassau County Firefighters Museum.

The area is served by several bus lines and four Long Island Rail Road stations in the Village.
